Task Flow and Collaboration
It is easy to lock yourself in existing systems, this is the case especially for large teams.
Approvals take weeks, reviews take days, and responses take hours.
Small teams are advantageous because they can move fast, make mistakes and be able to rectify in time.
To ensure better collaboration, maintain flow (a state where work progresses smoothly without unnecessary interruptions), and boost productivity, here are a few pointers:
-
Review work continously: You must encourage a culture of ongoing reviews throughout the day. Leverage automation to notify reviewers and ping them when reviews take longer than expected.
-
Keep work ready: You must maintain a clear list of prioritized deliverables so the team always know what to tackle next.
-
Empower ownership: Each contibution has potential to make or break momentum and it affects whole teams thus each members must review and approve work to reduce dependencies on individuals.
-
Pair up: Collaborate on tasks to eliminate delays in reviews and handoffs.
-
Timebox reviews: As a team we agree on a time box (i.e., within 2 hours) and we use reminders to keep things moving.
-
Proactive Collaboration: While waiting for reviews or new tasks, one must take initiative and contribute to other tasks or assist teammates.
Small teams can not afford the leisure of delays, they have to maximize team efficiency and focus on building momentum.
