Imperfection
Perfection is the primary reason people never reach goals. You have to embrace zigzag. I barely know where I’m going, but I’m taking the step. I’m moving forward.
Not every idea you put across will land the way you meant it to. Some interpretations will be accurate. Some won’t come close. Your words will get twisted, that’s the curse of a builder. You keep pursuing the path anyway, because moving is the only way you ever arrive.
The moment your work leaves your hands and meets the world, it is perfect. Letting it out means letting yourself be bad at it, on purpose, in public. That’s not weakness, that’s the courage the work requires.
If what you make reaches even one person, you’re off to a good start. You must be willing to defend your work when someone twists it’s meaning. Excuse me, that’s not what I meant. Here’s what I meant. Here’s why. You have a mind, it was given to you for a reason, you don’t hand them over the first time someone pushes back.
Be courageous enough to put your work in the world. Be bold enough to defend it. Be humble enough to accept feedback and integrate it. Be ruthless enough to kill it when it is not meeting users’ needs. Be patient enough to keep going especially on blurry days.
