The first version must be embarrassing, if it is not you shipped late.

Polish is a form of hiding. The unfinished thing in your head is always perfect; that is why it is worthless. Value appears when work leaves you and meets the world.

Ship the embarrassing version. Improve it in public, where real feedback is. In the real world, stakes are honest. In the real world, a product is useful, in the real world a product is useless, in the real world you’re loved, hated, ridiculed, or praised.

I shipped, “What if they copy my idea?”, they will, that’s the whole point. Being copied is success. You shared great work and it was valuable enough to be replicated. If you don’t ship, they will still copy your idea and execute it better than you.

“Oh man, I thought about this product idea last week, and now Victor just raised a pre-seed for it.”

You see: ideas are worthless, only when acted on do they become valuable. Be the person courageous enough to share your work with the world. Let them judge, let them trash, let them improve.

Without sharing your work, you never get feedback, so you’re disillusioned into thinking your idea is perfect. Are you the person who never gets to see the world and the world never gets to see.
